The Kindergarten Quilt

+ could also be know as the “Omg, my baby is in kindergarten!!” quilt :)

+ so this week, my Third Born, my littlest and my last, started full day, alternate day junior kindergarten.  up until just this year, our school had been doing half day, everyday kindergarten.  this is a big change!  especially since she’s still 3, and she’s never been away from my on a regular basis.

+ so when she asked me to make her a new quilt this week, i was happy to have a project to keep me busy, and distracted from worrying about her.  Third Born had a long list of requests.  first, i had to use the apple fabric that my sister in law had sent us earlier this week.  she also wanted the quilt to be “big, but not too much big”.. small enough to drag around the house, but big enough to get tucked into.  she also needed it to be rainbow, have butterflies and fairies on it, like her sister’s quilt.   so i used lots of rainbow colours.. pink, red, green, blue, purple, and  yellow.  and i put the butterflies and fairies on the back.  this quilt measures about 42″ square.

+ i did a few kinds of quilting on this one.. lots of straight lines, a bit of stippling, and i put some stars in the white squares, and some letter A’s in the apple  squares..  “A” is Third Born’s initial (and, according to her, the best letter), and i’ve used this “A” on quite a few of her things over the years.. like on her diaper bag, and some dresses.  it’s definitely in the background, but it makes me smile to see it there :)   also, the stippling went so much better for me today that it has in the past.  i used a pair of rubber dish washing gloves, and just seemed to be more in the groove today.

The Kindergarten Quilt!

can you see the A on the apple fabric?

out on the line.
